Spreading Christmas Joy (Serving LCHS Homeless & In Need Students)

For the third year the La Cueva High School PTA and Counselling departments are working to serve our students in need. This year LCHS has 12 Homeless/In Need (Title 1) students. These students live in shelters or have troubled families and are apart of our LCHS Community. Donations are collected through Dec 15th.

Donations can be left at LCHS’s Counseling Office (you can also call them at 823-BEAR) or the front desk.  Just let them know it is for this project.  We are trying to keep this as low profile as we can so that the students do not feel ashamed or embarrassed.

The counselling department will distribute the items – they have identified gender and sizes for clothes for Boys (Shirts Medium, Large, Shoes sizes 9.5, 10, 10.5, 12), Pants in sizes 29×30, 30×30, 30×32, 31×32, 34×32) and Girls (Shirts XS, S, M, XL, Shoes sizes 6.5, 7, 7.5, 10, pants 0, 3, 5, 7, 18).

Items for these children’s interests include Young Adult Books, Piano Music, Make-up/Toiletries, Art Supplies/Sketch Books/Pencils. Gift Cards and monetary donations are always welcome

Verizon Addition to PNM Power Pole at Heritage Hills Park

The Neighborhood Association have been copied on a letter that Verizon Wireless will be applying to co-locate a cellular antenna to a PNM Power Pole at the Heritage Hills Park off of Ventura. These existing Power Poles run just over of the parking area of the park, a small equipment box area will be placed nearby and the cluster attached the Power Pole.

This image shows with a red box and red star approximately where the equipment will be placed. A diagram and measurements are available in the PDF attached here:  Verizon Heritage Hills Park (PDF).

Additional images provided by the filing include mockups of the existing power poles with the cluster attached, in the document (PDF) here: Verizon PDF Simulated View

National Night Out – Hosts Needed

Heritage Hills Neighborhood Association (HHNA) is looking for hosts for 2014’s National Night Out (NNO) on Tuesday, August 5 at 7pm.

National Night Out 2014

HHNA neighbors have gathered over the years each August to meet and share in the spirit that has made our neighborhood such a great place to live. We are a diverse group of residents including as retirees, veterans, first time home owners, and young families. The idea of neighbor watching out for neighbor has been an ongoing endeavor for Hills Neighborhood Association (HHNA) and particularly for those who generously volunteer their time and effort to look out for the entire neighborhood.

If you are able to host for your nearby neighbors we will sign you up as an official NNO site with our Neighborhood Association and the City of Albuquerque. The Neighborhood Association will provide a yard sign, invitations to distribute to your neighbors, sign-in materials, a stipend for drinks and snacks. Hosts are asked to have a table for sign in, water and snacks, and to serve as a gathering point to engage conversation on your street. After the event, we will collect the sign in sheet for the drawings.

At the September General Meeting we will hold a drawing for both attendee’s and hosts, we’ve had area retailers donate over $250 of gift cards for our drawing. Hosts are eligible for a special volunteer host drawing.

The City of Albuquerque will have emergency responders and city officials visiting as many host homes as possible for a meet & greet.

For more information on National Night Out 2014, please check the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) website at http://natw.org/ and the City of Albuquerque NNO page at http://www.cabq.gov/police/crime-prevention-safety/national-night-out-1

With NNO just weeks away, please let us know if you are able to host Tuesday, August 5, 2014. If you have any questions please let us know! If you’ve already signed up, thank you again!

Contact us at info@hhna.us to sign up as a host!

Property Tax Exemption Deadline May 30

Don’t forget, you can apply for a Head of Household, Veteran or Disabled Veteran exemption to reduce your Property Tax liability. The following is an announcement from Bernalillo County. Everyone should look at applying for the Head of Household exemption for their primary residence!

Bernalillo County Assessor Tanya Giddings Reminds Property Owners of Upcoming Property Tax Exemption Deadline

Bernalillo County – Bernalillo County Assessor Tanya Giddings is reminding property owners that time is running out to apply for certain exemptions on their 2014 property tax bills. The exemptions include: Head of Family, Veteran and Disabled Veteran. The deadline to apply for these exemptions for them to be applied on the 2014 tax bill is May 30, 2014.

“I’ve made it a priority of the County Assessor’s Office to treat all property owners in Bernalillo County fairly and equitable and to increase our community outreach and education efforts. This includes informing property owners of property tax exemptions that they may qualify for and aren’t taking advantage of,” County Assessor Tanya Giddings says.

HEAD OF FAMILY: This exemption is available to any Head of Family, whether they are single, married or widowed. The $2,000 exemption can only be applied to the property owner’s primary residence, and only one family exemption per household is permitted. Those eligible for this exemption must apply for it only once to receive it in subsequent years.

VETERAN’S EXEMPTIONS:

  1. The 100 percent Disabled Veteran Exemption is a 100 percent exemption from property tax on the disabled veteran’s primary residence.
  2. The Veteran Exemption is available to all eligible veterans and is a $4,000 exemption which is subtracted from the taxable value of the home or land.

The New Mexico Veteran’s Service Commission determines all eligibility and issues a certificate to all qualifying veterans. Surviving spouses may also receive the exemption if the commission determines they qualify.

Applications for the Head of Family and Veterans’ Exemptions can be found on the Bernalillo County Assessor’s website, www.bernco.gov/assessor-office, or can be picked up at the Assessor’s Office. You can also call 222-3700 for more information.
